My research agenda focuses on the competition between states and criminal organizations to control communities. In particular, I look at citizen-police cooperation in gang-contested communities, exploring how citizens make decisions about sharing information with the police. I have conducted fieldwork primarily in Lagos, Nigeria and Baltimore, Maryland.
