Research Profile

I am soon to begin my PhD at KCL that will explore how a favela (Rio) community responds to mega-event disruptions that destroyed its community-led projects and tourism initiatives through sustainable reconstruction and resilience. It will explore in detail the security aspects of the UPP and how this intervention has caused social and spatial divisions within the favela between them and the Red Command gang - an area that I hope to also write some publications on. I have a keen interest in favelas generally, as well as the gang culture. I have a tourism management background and have just successfully passed my MPhil at Anglia Ruskin University on 'Transformational resilience, resistance and social change: The role of creative social legacy initiatives in Rio's favelas'.
